Definition
A beachhead is the smallest market you can dominate: one customer type, one job, one geography. You win it on purpose so you have proof, references, and a wedge into the next adjacent market. It is strategy, not a consolation prize.
In the room
How the word shows up in a real conversation.
Instead of “HR for India,” the team sells only to 50–200 person SaaS firms in Bengaluru that already use Slack. After they own that pocket, they expand to similar firms in Pune. That first pocket is the beachhead.
Common mistake
Calling a beachhead “thinking small.” A beachhead you can win beats a continent you cannot enter.
