Definition
Portfolios can also be referred to as a collection of a person's or company's investment over time. It is an individual or organization's accumulation of assets and evidence of achievement. The portfolio may include any combination of financial assets, real estate, intellectual property, physical assets, human capital, and other tangible or intangible resources.
In the room
How the word shows up in a real conversation.
In a Monday review, someone writes Portfolio on the board and restates it: “Collection of investments or projects managed by an individual or organization.” The next move is a test, a cut, or a double-down — not another debate about the word.
Common mistake
Using Portfolio as a label instead of a fact. If you cannot point to the evidence — a number, a customer, or a written assumption — you are using the word as jargon.
